Having a guarantee symbol or a “We Guarantee Our Products” on the home page and every place where people would check out products with money makes people feel good.

If having a guarantee is your unique selling position over your competitors then it would be a very good idea to exploit that and show that off as that is what would help them to buy your products and services.

When laying out the navigation of a website it is tempting to stuff keywords in there. Do not do this as it is not eye appealing to users. In your main navigation you will want it to be as easy as possible to follow. Here is what you do not want it to look like.

Lets say you sell computers and all types of different types of brands. You would be tempted to do something like this.

Laptop Computers ( main header)

dell laptop computers

sony laptop computers

apple laptop computers

hewlitt packard laptop computers

acer laptop computers

lenovo laptop computers

Do not do this. Although you are using the keywords in the navigation it gets really hard to follow. A better layout would be to just use the manufacturers.

Laptop Computers

dell

sony

apple

hewlitt packard

acer

lenovo

This provides a more easy to use navigation. Remember to use the navigation tabs for the users, not for the search engine spiders.

On your Laptop Computers main page where you have all of the items is where you would include your keywords

For Example:

Laptop Computers

Dell Laptop Computers Sony Laptop Computers Apple Laptop Computers

Picture Picture Picture

Hewlitt Packard Laptop Computers Acer Laptop Computers Lenovo Laptop Computers

Picture Picture Picture

This is where you can hyperlink your targeted keywords to their individual pages. So all of the blank laptop computers would be hyperlinked thus giving you your seo.

The most important thing in marketing in the search engines is having a good keyword list. So how do you start to build a keyword list that will properly tell visitors what you offer and most importantly bring you more customers.

Here are some things to keep in mind when thinking of words to target for your business in the search engines.

1. What does your product do?

2. What are your important features?

3. What are your characteristics?

4. What problems do you solve?

5. What are words that describe your business?

6. What are words that customers use to describe your business?

7. Do not use misspellings, search engines correct these now.

8. Have you received awards? Best something

All of these are things to jog the memory banks to see all the different types of words and phrases that describe your business. When building a list of keywords you want to just write down everything that comes to mind.

In the brainstorming session let your mind go so you can have a good list. As you use keyword tools you can use the use synonyms tool as it will also pull back more related words that you otherwise would not have thought of. This will help you build a preliminary list.

After you find these words you can then add modifiers to increase your keyword list. Modifiers would be like best, reviews, purchase, and buy would all be words that you can use to increase your keyword list.

The most important thing to remember is that it will be easier to rank in the beginning with what is called lont tail keywords and this means that the keyword phrase is made up of 3,4,5,6 or more words. People are starting to be smarter as they search for information and therefore are generally typing in more words to find exactly what they want.

Also remember that you will not have as much competition for the longer keyword phrases and the traffic is much more targeted as they are looking for exactly what they typed in. This is not as much the case with 1 or 2 keyword phrases.

Use all of these tips to increase your ranking power in the search engines.

When it comes to wanting a website to rank high in the search engines, search engine optimization, then it is much better and easier to rank a bigger site rather than a smaller website. Search engines are content eaters and the more they can eat the better.

The average website page that ranks in the top 10 listings or on page 1 in the search engine results pages has an average of 400 words on it. Search engines cannot see images and so it is common sense that what they can see they want more of it, which is text.

Valuable content that is relevant to the subject or topic will be more useful to visitors and seach engines. The average size of a website that ranks in the top 10 results on a search engine has 100 pages or more.

On average the top 10 search results have:

1. At least 400 words on the page

2. Website is 100 pages or more

With this said it is becoming more apparent that the more information you can give to a visitor and walk them through the information in a easy way the more the search engines like that. Search engines are out to provide the best information on the web to the internet users.

The better you can provide information on a particular subject the better your website will rank. With the ease of blogs and content management systems, it is much easier to add content on a regular basis. Plus with the addition of using audio and video on your website this also proves a much more effective way to relay valuable information.

When trying to rank on page 1 of the search results put yourself in Google’s position. As you look at the websites that are in the top positions in the search engines ask yourself why.

Why would this page show up in the top position for this word or phrase over the others.

Is it because their is more useful information? Are there more words? Is it because the website has a ton of pages of content? If you were Google who would you rather rank well for your visitors? The answer is obvious, you would rather show the pages that are the most useful with more content explaining or showing what the term is.

Whether that content be in text form, audio form, video form or any other form the search engines love those who are looking out for the visitors. This is who Google is looking out for and if you do the same then you will be alright.

Google is out to provide the best information on the web, not make websites successful. This is a very important thing to remember. So in a sense would your site be successful if Google or other search engines did not exist.

BIGGER is BETTER when it comes to websites and how much information they have on them. The more information a website has the more pages it can have indexed in the search engines and the more ways people can find you.

Plus the more information and content the more reasons to give a visitor to bookmark your page and hopefully social bookmark it.

Common sense says the bigger something is the more it had to grow and that is true when it comes to businesses and businesses online.

Keywords are what we call the words that people use to type into the search engines to find things. For internet marketers targeting which keywords to go after is vital to their success. There are several methods to finding which keywords to use that most appropriately explain your business and that people will type to find you. There is a buying cycle with keywords and here are the different sections.

1. Browse Keywords

2. Compare Keywords

3. Buy Keywords

Browse keywords are words that people use to gather information in a broad manner. Many big companies will be listed under browse keywords as they constantly increase their branding. Browse keywords are generally only 1 word.

Browse Keywords:

shoes, bikes, hoses, camcorder, mountains, computers, jeans, etc.

Compare keywords are a little more specific and start going into more words. Searchers who are comparing products are generally still looking for the certain types of products within the main category. Compare keywords will be longer than 1 word. All of these type of keywords are used when people are trying to find the best product for them. This is like going from store to store comparing products in brick and mortar stores.

Compare Keywords:

basketball shoes, lowcut basketball shoes, nike basketball shoes, reebok basketball shoes, samsung digital camcorders, hd camcorders under $500, laptop computers with webcam, laptop computer reviews, dell laptop computer reviews

Buy keywords are very specific and generally have many words to be more descriptive. When someone knows what they want they generally will type it exactly with model numbers or brand name. Many of these keywords will have words that will help them make the purchase like: purchase, best price, low cost, buy, etc. As you can see the keywords are made up of longer phrases. These are called long tail keywords and are easier to rank well for as their is less competition.

Buy Keywords:

buy sony hd camcorder, purchase dell inspiron E1505, panasonic camcorder sale, low cost nike shoes, reebok basketball shoe coupon

As you are building your keyword list remember that you want to be listed under the specific terms that describe your business and exactly what you sell. The more places you are listed the better the conversions.

Remember it is better to be listed in many long tail keywords that are specific to your company than to have only one listing that ranks well for a browse keyword.

This is where you have to know a customers 3 P’s.

The 3 P’s will give you a good assessment of where the customer is at in their buying decision:

1. Pain

2. Predicament

3. Problem

These are the things you must identify in any person. Remember people buy things to solve their problems. So you have to understand their problem. In order to sell something you have to target the individuals pain. For example they are tired of being fat, tired of being broke, sick of driving an old car.

Once you identify their pain then that is what you must keep in their remembrance. So when it comes to selling things you have to diagnose the customers pain first. Then you can play doctor and diagnose how your product or service can heal their pain.

So when it comes to identifying your customers 3 P’s on your website you must target these emotions of pain, predicament, and problem. So in your web copy you will have to bring these to light. The reason you must first identify these is because nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.

A doctor must diagnose the problem before writing a prescription, right. The same goes for selling things to people. Most people will start to go after how great their product or service is and how everyone needs it to better their lives. People always always always want their problem or pain solved and if you do not paint a picture of the problems your product solves then you are prescribing a solution to no problem.

In other words you have to let people know you understand their pain, predicament, and problem and that you wish to be of help. Think about it, if you knew your customers problems or even helped them recognize their problems then the first part is done. They realize they have a problem.

This is the first step in selling: helping the customer know they have a problem. Now when it comes to web copy you can do this in a relatively short time. A few sentences will do.

For example if you are selling sleeping pills you will write like this:

Are you tired but can’t sleep?

Tired of staring at the ceiling all night?

Constantly tossing and turning?

Always have that groggy feeling in the morning?

We understand and know that tossing and turning all night is not the way to spend a night. We want to help you feel awake and refreshed in the morning so you can be more productive.

Do you see how that identifies the predicament? First you tell them some of the things they know like tossing and feeling groggy. Then I made them feel like I know what that is like plus I threw in that our product will help them be more productive. That is the solution as a result of the diagnosis and prescription.

So remember to always first identify the 3 P’s and you will then be fine.

There are a lot of different things you can do with Google in regards to searching for things. There are some extra strings that you can use to increase how you find stuff that you are looking for. Here is a list of some search strings.

1. Date range: You can use this to find things during certain dates. Example - seo daterange 2007 June - 2008 June. This will pull back information during this time. This helps for updated information.

2. Exact Search: You can use this to find exact things. Type in “search engine optimization” and it will pull back results that have all of those words in a row. This is exact match.

3. Using OR:If you want to pull information on two different subjects in comparison you can type in pools OR ponds.

4. Safe Search: This will pull back all information without adult content. For example if you were looking for something you would type in safesearch: keyword. This will help you filter your results.

5. allintitle: This will find titles of pages that have what you request. For example allintitle: swimming pools. This will then pull back all pages that have the term swimming pools in the title.

6. Filetype: This will help you get different types documents. For example seo:pdf. This will pull back all pdf’s regarding seo.

7. Calculator: Google also acts like a calculator to. + = add, - = subtract, / = divide, * = multiply. Just type in your math problem into the search query and it will give you the answer.

8. Definitions: You can also look up definitions as well. Type in define: innovation. This will pull back the definition of innovation.

9. Site Search: If you only want to find information on one site then type site:website.com. This will also show how many pages are in the index.

These are just a few of some of the search strings that you can use to more effectively find information on Google. If you want go to Google and type search strings on Google. This will also help you find more.

There are many people who may think they have put up a website for their company and then after that is smooth sailing and they are going to get business just because they have a website that is online. This is a sad mistake for any company. If you think that publishing a website will make you successful then you should ask these questions.

There are some questions that every website owner should ask themselves:

1) Why is your website special?

2) What does your website offer to customers?

3) Why is your website better then your competitors?

4) Does your website offer value?

5) Why will customers keep wanting to come back?

Anyone can register a domain and hire someone to build them a website to put it with that domain. Add some pictures and content and you have a site online. This is not that complicated to do and all of your competitors can do it. In this day and age elementary kids can do this.

Establishing your online presence is a start but in any company it takes continual work. No business owner opens a business and then thinks they don’t need to show up after that. Successful business owners continually work on their business and growing the company.

In the online world having a business must do the same. If you want to have your company continually grow online then you need to treat it just like you do offline. Just building the website and sitting back admiring your work will soon cripple your company.

In the business world people do not care how hard you have worked and built your company. The online world is the same. People do not care how much work it has taken you to build your website. They do not care if you were up all night to finish some pages or if you spent thousands of dollars to build your website.

So what do people care about? They care about results for them and how is your company going to make my life better and easier. Everyone listens to WIFM ( What’s in it for me ) radio. When a customer visits a website they think what is in it for me and why should I return.

So think about this, if a customer has been to your website and then they want to come back that is a good thing. What if every time they come back they see the same thing and nothing changes. The mind then says I have already seen this.

In order for companies to grow their must be continual improvements and enhancements. The philosophy of growth says that if you are not moving forward then you are not only stagnet, but moving backwards because everyone around you is moving forward.

If you are not continually improving and enhancing your website and company online then not only are you not moving, you are moving backwards. The internet and technology is moving to fast to cater to those who do not continually improve.

I see a lot of websites out online that are very small and trying to compete in the search engines. In this day and age having 30 pages for a website is nothing. Yet you see a lot of people who put up a website with pictures, a little text, a little about their company, and how to contact them and that is pretty much the whole site.

We have all seen these types of websites everyday. So today I am going to cover one of the major things that search engines look at and that is the size of a website. Pretend you are a search engine and you see a website that has only 30 pages and they have been up for a while.

Instantly your first thought is there are not very many pages so there must not be much information right. Common sense goes a long way in this situation. Now lets say you as a search engine see another site about the same thing that has 400 pages. Instantly as you read this common sense tells you that the website that has 400 pages has more information.

Search engines can easily see this. However all of the information must surround the relative information and be relevant throughout the site. If you have a site that talks about trucks, carpet, and clothing then that is not as tightly focused as having 400 pages that surrounds the concept of trucks.

Having tightly focused pages that go together will provide a user more information. One page talking about tires, one on paint, one on show trucks, one on 4×4 trucks will be a tightly focused website. If you have a 400 page website that talks about trucks and anything having to do with trucks then it will be a lot easier to rank higher than a another website that talks about trucks that is only 30 pages.

This might seem like common sense but you would be surprised how many people think that they can compete with huge websites and only have a few pages of information. In search engine optimization the size of a website is a factor worth looking at. Plus adding and growing content to a website also provides more ways for users to find you and more pages for the search engine to put into their index.

So as you are building your website you should keep in mind that you have to have information of value to be the authority for your keyword in the search engine results. In the search engines size does matter.
